Folly and the Hunter / There Are No Great Redeemers

Nick and I were lucky enough take our time as we were heading back to Montreal from Toronto, while Joelle, Laurie and Chris had to go home in the morning time. My time spent touring with Folly and the NXNE festival was an amazing experience that has changed me entirely.

There’s a spot not too far outside Toronto that I stumbled upon with my friends last year. My friend Leah and I were in the front seat of the car when we saw a large body of water, we looked at each other immediately, knowing exactly what had to be done. We jumped in the water since the weather was freakishly hot for Thanksgiving, the day we filmed this video was just as nice out. It’s a spot I’ll be visiting every time I leave the city.

It’s a nice farewell to an great city, and a nice reminder of where we are in our lives.

Oh, and I also met Mitch, the creator of Southern Souls and also my biggest inspiration.

He’s a pretty cool dude. (Hi Mitch!)

Paper Beat Scissors / Sprout and the Bean (Originally by Joanna Newsom)

Tim and my band performed at the Black Sheep in Wakefield the night before this video was taken. Once we got back to Ottawa for the night “someone” forgot their suitcase at the venue. Being the nice guy that I am, I offered a ride back to town but it was a nice day and why wouldn’t you want to spend as much time as you can in a such a beautiful place.

We got into Wakefield early hoping that someone would be at the venue before it opened. The sun was beaming down and we took the opportunity to film a quick video. Luckily I had one of the best sound guys around, we did a take, we packed up and we were on the road again. Chris and Tim provided some great entertainment for the rest our drive to Peterborough.

I guess it goes to show that detours can be a good thing if you put a positive spin on it. I got to spend a few extra minutes in a town that I quickly fell in love with, I got to taste the well water, and I got to film some amazing music.

What a memorable day.

Year of Glad / Flees

Year of Glad / Untitled / Lefteagleswing

Alex and Mike met me at the corner of Cote-des-Neige and Sherbrooke where we took a ride over to the now abandoned Marianopolis CEGEP. It was a fun hike up and we got to see a creepy abandoned building that looked like it was vacated when the CEGEP was shut down. Everyone should check this place out and watch out for the sink holes!

We took it down to the corner of Crecsent and René Lévesque, to a spot that Alex and Mike discovered the night before. A huge abandoned parking lot used for Bell Center events. It was an awesome spot, a whole lot of emptiness in a bustling city.

The best part about this project is meeting every single subject I get to film and I can say that I made some good friends that day. After the session, we took the music to a nearby park and made the whole day last.

So awesome.

Groenland / Daydreaming

Groenland / The Things I’ve Done

My first shoot in a long while and I couldn’t have asked for a better band to start it off. I met up with Groenland at Jean-Vivier’s apartment, which was pretty neat since one of my first shoots with the Tsunami Captain’s was just a block away.

It’s always nice to catch up with the artists that I meet with a beer, before or after I shoot. I’m always interested in their stories because it’s what brought them to this moment. Anyways I just wanted to say I had a lot of fun hanging out, so thanks guys!

The beautiful people of Groenland perform Daydreaming and The Thing’s I’ve Done.

The Usual Suspects / Friends Like These

The Usual Suspects / Heart Beats Slow

The Usual Suspects were the second band I had the chance to film while I was in Toronto. Once again some of my friends referred me to these guys who are an incredibly talented group.

It was so neat to see parts of Toronto I other would have never seen in my life.

For our 39th session, The Usual Suspects perform “Friends Like These” and “Heart Beats Slow”.
